The Rock at MSU

On Monday, February 13, 2023, the MSU community experienced a tragedy we never dreamed would reach our campus. In the aftermath of the event, students, staff, faculty, and alumni from around the world came together in mourning and to remember those we lost.

The Rock on campus is well known to anyone who has spent time at MSU. Changing almost daily, the Rock has been the site of protests, celebrations, vigils, and remembrances. Many in the Lansing area have been able to visit the Rock to pay respects, take a moment to reflect, or leave a token.

For those who are not able to make it to campus, we have created this virtual reality version of the Rock as it was painted on the morning of Wednesday, February 15, 2023. The virtual version of the rock is viewable in your web browser, or by using your phone/tablet to “place” it so you can explore it wherever you are.

To view the Rock in your own space on an Apple device simply click on the image below and it will allow you to open it within your device camera and place it in front of you. If you are using an Android or other device you may need to download an app that can view objects in 3d augmented reality, or you can explore the object within a web browser on your device.

To view the virtual object on a computer or other device that does not support augmented reality you can access and interact with the virtual Rock using the file below.
